The Ergonomics Package and Power Rear Seats, Explained

Most conversations about a rear seat begin with legroom. The Ergonomics Package begins somewhere quieter: the angle of your knees over a long evening, the position of a headrest against your neck, the way a bolster releases when you step out. It is a set of choices made for the person who spends time in the back — and, occasionally, for the driver who wants that same considered posture up front.

Below, what the package actually does, where it lives in the Genesis lineup, and who tends to notice it first.

What the Ergonomics Package Includes

The name is plain, and the contents follow suit. Depending on the model and trim, the package brings power adjustment to the rear outboard seats — recline, cushion extension, and lumbar — along with heating and, in some configurations, ventilation. On the flagship G90, the rear passenger seat becomes something closer to a private study: a power ottoman rises from beneath the cushion, the front passenger seat slides forward on command, and a side console places climate, audio, and massage settings within a fingertip's reach.

On the G80, the package is more restrained but built on the same idea. Rear passengers gain power recline and cushion adjustment; the front passenger seat can be nudged forward from the back to open space behind it. The controls are integrated into the door panel and center armrest, machined with the same knurled finish used elsewhere in the cabin. The detail rewards a second look.

Massage, Heating, Ventilation

Where equipped, the rear massage function offers several patterns — not as a novelty, but as a genuine remedy for the long stretches of a workday spent seated. Heating and ventilation extend to the outboard positions. On the G90, the position memory returns the seat to its last-used configuration when the door opens, which sounds trivial until you have experienced it after a late flight.

Where the Package Appears

The Ergonomics Package, in its fullest expression, belongs to the G90. That car is built around the rear seat in a way the rest of the lineup is not; the wheelbase, the door aperture, the acoustic glass, and the rear climate zone are all in service of the passenger behind the driver.

Elements of the same thinking migrate down the range. The G80 offers a rear comfort package on higher trims, and the GV80 — particularly in its three-row configuration — brings power second-row features that matter on longer family drives. Availability varies by model year and trim, so we would rather walk you through what a specific vehicle carries than generalize here. Current allocation is visible in our new inventory, and our team can confirm which cars on the ground include the package.

Who Notices First

The buyer who asks about this package is usually not the person who will spend the most time in it. A physician who commutes between Norman and OKC and takes patients or partners to dinner. An attorney whose clients ride from the airport to a downtown meeting. A business owner whose spouse prefers to read on the drive to Tulsa rather than watch the highway. In each case, the rear seat stops being an afterthought and becomes part of the itinerary.

There is also the driver who values symmetry. If the front seat has been engineered to hold you comfortably for three hours, why should the person behind you settle for less. The Ergonomics Package answers that question without making an argument of it.

The Details That Do the Work

A power rear seat is easy to describe on a spec sheet and difficult to explain in prose, because most of what makes it work is tactile. The cushion extension supports the length of the thigh so a taller passenger is not perched at the front edge. The recline is gradual enough that you can find the exact angle rather than choosing between two presets. The lumbar inflates in stages. The materials — Nappa leather on the upper trims, the same diamond quilting used on the door cards — carry through so the rear compartment reads as one room, not as an economy version of the front.

Acoustics and Light

The seat does not work alone. Rear-passenger comfort on the G90 depends on the acoustic laminated glass, the power sunshades, and the dual-zone rear climate that lets the person behind the driver set their own temperature without negotiation. Take any of those away and the seat is still a good seat; keep them together and the cabin behaves as a single, quiet composition. Beauty of White Space, applied to a place people actually sit.

Configuring the Car You Want

The Ergonomics Package is not a universal option, and it is not always the deciding factor. Some buyers want it and everything around it; others prefer the cleaner second row of a base configuration. Either is a defensible choice. What matters is knowing which cars in Norman right now carry the package, and how that changes month to month as allocation shifts.

Our showroom pages for the G80 and G90 outline current trim structures, and the contact page is the fastest way to reach someone who can pull a specific window sticker before you drive over. If financing is part of the conversation, our finance team is happy to work through the numbers ahead of your visit.

Sitting in One

The rear seat of a Genesis is not a talking point. It is a place. The Ergonomics Package is what happens when the same discipline applied to the driver's chair is extended, quietly, to the passenger who arrived to be driven. Considered, not loud.

We invite you to a private, unhurried drive at Genesis of Norman. Call ahead or schedule online, and we will have a car equipped with the Ergonomics Package ready for you to sit in — front seat and back.
