There is a small button on the GV60 steering wheel, finished in the same knurled metal as the drive-mode selector, marked simply with the word Boost. Press it, and the car reorganizes itself for ten seconds. What happens in those ten seconds is worth understanding — not because you'll use it often, but because of what it says about how the car is designed.
What Boost Mode Is
Boost is a ten-second recalibration of the GV60 Performance model's dual-motor powertrain. When engaged, the car temporarily unlocks its full combined output from both the front and rear motors, sharpens throttle response, and stiffens the electronic controls that govern torque distribution. The transmission mapping — such as it is on a single-speed EV — commits fully to the front axle for launch, then hands off to the rear as speed builds.
Ten seconds is not arbitrary. It is long enough to complete a highway on-ramp merge from a standstill, long enough to close a gap on a two-lane road with confidence, and short enough that the system's thermal management stays composed. After the interval expires, the car returns to its previous drive mode without ceremony. No warning chime. No dramatic exhale. It simply resumes.
How It Feels From the Driver's Seat
The character of Boost is not what most people expect. It is not violent. It is not theatrical. The GV60 is already quick in Sport mode, and Boost does not so much add drama as it removes the last remaining softness from the drivetrain's edges. Throttle inputs become one-to-one. The regenerative braking recalibrates. The steering weights up a shade. It is the difference between a car that is willing and a car that is committed.
The detail rewards a second look: Boost is engaged with the left thumb, not the right foot. You press the button first, then you use the accelerator. This sequencing matters. It means the car is aware of your intent before you ask for the output — a small piece of ergonomic choreography that reflects the same design thinking as the rotating crystal sphere on the console, or the way the door handles present themselves as you approach.
When You'd Actually Use It
For most Norman and Oklahoma City drivers, Boost is not an everyday tool. It is a reserve. A few scenarios where it earns its place on the wheel:
- Merging onto I-35 from a short on-ramp during afternoon traffic, when the gap you need is closing faster than you'd like
- Passing a slow-moving trailer on a two-lane stretch of Highway 9 heading east, where the window is measured in seconds
- The moment on a demonstration drive when a passenger asks, quietly, what the car is capable of — and you'd rather answer with the car than with words
What Boost is not designed for: repeated use in quick succession, drag-strip theater, or impressing anyone at a stoplight. The car has better manners than that, and so, presumably, does the driver who chose it.
The Engineering Underneath
The GV60 Performance shares its E-GMP platform architecture with the rest of the Electrified GV70 and Electrified G80 lineup, but Boost is specific to the GV60 Performance trim. The 800-volt electrical architecture is what makes the ten-second window possible — the battery can deliver peak current to both motors without the voltage sag that would otherwise limit sustained output. It is the same architecture that enables the car's rapid DC fast-charging behavior, applied in a different direction.
The dual-motor layout, with a permanent-magnet synchronous motor at each axle, allows for continuously variable torque vectoring. In normal driving, the car biases toward the rear for efficiency. In Boost, the front motor is fully awake, and the two axles work in concert. Where It Fits in the Ownership Experience
Boost is a feature you may show a friend once, then rarely use. That is fine. It exists for the same reason the GV60 has a crystal sphere that rotates to reveal the drive selector — because someone at Genesis decided that the moments a car surprises you should be designed with the same care as the moments it doesn't. Considered, not loud.
